Julie Le, D.O., R-5 Chief Resident

Medical School : Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Julie Le has somehow managed to flourish in her role as Chief Resident, maintain a senior clinical position in the Department of Psychiatry, coordinate the Psychiatry Journal Club, and serve as a presenter and panelist during the 2007 UCSD Primary Care Symposium where she presented "Psychological Aspects of Obesity."  Despite being incredibly busy, she has focused on her most important job... as mother of baby Evelyn who was born in 2006. 

"As part of the combined family medicine and psychiatry family here at UCSD, I am so proud of the mission, vision, and values that we have instilled because this place truly strives for commitment to medicine as well as to its community and patients including the medically underserved. The residents thrive on the opportunities given by UCSD and St. Vincent's de Paul thus making our experiences so challenging, unique, and most importantly, rewarding. Since I have been here, it is amazing to see how much our program has grown and continues to grow with the addition of a second free medical clinic at Alliance and expanding our care to the community via the Mobile Medical Unit. Furthermore, the program also allows for residents to really be leaders and/or pioneers in a field that is still young but very much needed. My main interests include geriatric psychiatry and geriatric medicine so I am really looking forward to learning more about both this year!

I was born in Missouri and raised in the suburbs of Maryland, attended undergrad at Princeton University with a B.A. in East Asian Studies, did one year of clinical research at the National Institutes of Mental Health with emphasis on Personality and Genetics studies of Adult Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder patients, then went back to my birth state for medical school at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school, I completed one year of psychiatry internship at King/Drew Medical Center before transferring to UCSD where I now call home.

A quick blurb on life outside of residency: I'm married, have a little baby girl named Evelyn, and am still loving San Diego . Can't complain about the weather, there is so much to do with plenty of outdoor activities ie. water sports/ocean kayaking, camping, surfing, and tennis, great restaurants, and best of all, lots of friends and family come to visit.  "
